ADHD
Manage ADHD and Overcome Anorexia with Outpatient Treatment and Nutrition Therapy with Registered Dietitians in the St. Louis Area
Link Between Anorexia and ADHD
The relationship between these two disorders may be co-occurring, but the exact relationship between them is rather complex and not fully understood. Some shared features that may cause an overlap between the two are control difficulties and neurobiological factors.
Why do people with ADHD struggle with eating?
A reason those struggling with ADHD may also struggle with eating include distractibility, impulsivity and difficulties with executive functioning. Medication side effects can also play a role. One might struggle with meal planning, which can lead to irregular eating times and impact their food decision and appetite. Throw in sensory sensitivities and that can further complicate things.
Treatment of anorexia with ADHD
Treatment for individuals with both disorders often involves addressing symptoms of both conditions through a multidisciplinary team with an eating disorder dietitian (us at Branz Nutrition), a therapist, psychiatrist, and a PCP/Pediatrician to name a few. It’s also important for the caregivers of those struggling to understand the issues above in order to help those with ADHD to develop strategies to support healthier eating habits.
Does insurance cover nutrition therapy for anorexia?
We are in-network with many insurance companies. Insurance-based nutrition counseling is based on your insurance provider’s approval and specific insurance plan. We can only provide services based on what they allow, following their specific guidelines. Such perimeters include:
- Requiring a certain amount of time in between appointments
- No additional support between appointments
- Check your medical nutrition therapy benefits here.
While nutritional counseling can be beneficial for various conditions, we find that, specifically for those suffering from disordered eating, continuous support and ongoing accountability is the game changer in achieving recovery.
We believe that full recovery is possible with the right support and treatment. We look forward to being part of your healing process.

I’m an eating disorder therapist, and have had such a great experience collaborating with the dietitians from this practice! Laura and Michelle are knowledgeable, super responsive, and passionate about the work they do. I would not hesitate to refer clients or my own family/friends to this practice.
Erica Branz and her team are superb dietitians, and I have enjoyed collaborating with them to support clients struggling with eating disorders and other issues. Their practice prioritizes compassionate care, which shines through in all of their interactions. Erica leads a top notch team!
I feel weird writing a review with my name showing, so I shall write this to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”

Super knowledgeable and very helpful! 10 out of 10!!! - SIFU Eric ToenniesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been sending patients to Branz for a while now and there is nobody I trust more than these nutritionist and dieticians. They actually care about you and take a deep dive into your life to see what all is the reason or reasons that you cannot obtain the results you are looking for. They provide a great plan on how to get you from A to B in the best way possible. My favorite part of their care is when a patient comes back and tells me how thorough they have been in covering what is going on. Loshi VueTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can’t say enough great things about this practice! The team brings professionalism, heart, and deep clinical expertise to every discussion. Their initiative to keep learning, growing, and leading within the field of nutrition truly sets them apart! HeatherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve worked with Branz Nutrition Counseling on several occasions, and each experience has been exceptional. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but what really sets them apart is how down-to-earth and approachable they are. Talking about food and eating behaviors can be very vulnerable—much like discussing any other mental health concern—and it makes a huge difference to work with people who meet you with kindness and zero judgment. The team at Branz truly makes people feel supported. They’re not there to lecture or shame; they’re there to help. We’ll continue to refer people to Branz because we trust they’ll be met with compassion, respect, and real expertise.
