National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW)
National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW)
National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW) is an annual campaign that provides support to those who have experienced or are experiencing an eating disorder, as well as educates the public to better understand the reality of living with an eating disorder. Eating disorders don’t discriminate. They can affect anyone no matter their body, age, gender, or background. That is why it is so important to raise awareness and provide widespread support.
This year’s NEDAW theme is Fighting for Change, Committed to Change – Every Body Belongs, and is going to be February 23rd through March 1st. One goal is to highlight the importance of having a good support system when recovering from or helping someone recover from an eating disorder. Dealing with disordered eating can be very isolating. Feeling alone only makes it harder for recovery. Having good support networks around you can help recovery feel less isolating. Support could be friends, family, or an online group, but the power of support and voice can not be understated.
Does this resonate with you or do you find this may be helpful for someone you know? Lucky for you there are a lot of ways you can be involved in 2026 NEDAW, and Branz Nutrition Counseling is here to help!
- You can do research to better your own understanding of eating disorders. This can help you spot the signs of an eating disorder, empower you to reach out for help, and enable you to provide a better community for someone in your life who may be struggling. Understanding eating disorders can affect everybody for the better!
- Branz Nutrition Counseling (BNC) has “Please do not weigh me” cards that you can use for support at doctors offices to help with reducing weight stigma.
- You can check your social media platforms to make sure they are inclusive and recovery focused. This can help reduce diet culture content but can also be a platform of learning, community and hope.
- It’s also important you try to feel comfortable communicating with your team including your dietitian on what you need so that they can help you initiate positive long-term change.
- You can stay up to date with local events through organizations like NEDA and ANAD.
Eating disorders affect 30 million Americans sometime in their lifetime. Dealing with an eating disorder can be very isolating. National Eating Disorder Awareness Week is one effort to try to help those struggling with eating disorders. This year’s theme will highlight that every body in ED recovery has a voice.
